Syfy has given a green light for a 90-minute pilot based on the 2010 movie Legion.

Dominion is set 25 years into the future, in a world ravaged by a war between humankind and an army of angels. Its hero is a rebellious young soldier, who discovers that he is the unlikely savior of humanity, according to Deadline.

Paul Bettany starred as Michael in the feature film.

The pilot movie will be written by Vaun Wilmott (Sons Of Anarchy) and directed by Legion director and co-writer Scott Stewart.

This is the first in the cable network’s plan to rejuvenate its flagging scripted originals in 2014. Mark Stern, Syfy’s president of original programming, told The Hollywood Reporter this week that the network is hoping to put five or six new shows in production. (This follows on the successful bow of Defiance, which returns in June, and the cancellation of Warehouse 13 — which is back next summer for a 6-episode wrap-up.)

Among the top contenders are an adaptation of Terry Gilliam’s 12 Monkeys (story); Clandestine, a space-based show about a ship of mercenaries masquerading as part of an intergalactic fleet; Proof, from Marti Noxon and M. Night Shyamalan, about a billionaire who offers a large reward for anyone who can find proof of life after death; and Sojourn, about an outer space detective who investigates a murder on board a starship.

Syfy has remained quiet about its already filmed pilot for Rewind, suggesting it is unlikely that show will move forward.
