Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. Is the Fall’s Most Anticipated New Show

Is ABC’s comic book show already a hit … before it’s even aired?

Marvel’s Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. is already making waves ahead of its September 24 premiere, and not just in the fandom world. The pilot episode is being well-reviewed by television critics, and odds-makers have already called the TV spin-off of 2012’s The Avengers a “sure thing” in the hit department.

Here at SciFi Stream we’re covering all seven of this fall’s new genre shows, but we were curious which show you are the most excited about. So we took a poll and, as you can see from the results, Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. crushed it, with more than 60 percent of the vote:

The show stars Clark Gregg, Ming-Na Wen, Brett Dalton, Chloe Bennet, Iain De Caestecker, and Elizabeth Henstridge, whose characters make up a top-level team of government operatives who track down the paranormal and the superhuman. Sometimes it means protecting the human race … and sometimes it means protecting extraordinary people from everyone else.

The show comes from executive producers Joss Whedon, brother Jed Whedon, and his wife Maurissa Tancharoen. The team previously collaborated on Dollhouse and Dr. Horrible’s Sing-Along Blog. Joss, of course, wrote and directed the 2012 blockbuster The Avengers — now the third highest-grossing movie of all time. He’s back in 2015 with the sequel, The Avengers: Age of Ultron.

The television series follows the “ordinary” people of the Strategic Homeland Intervention, Enforcement and Logistics Division, and will likely have some elements that weave in and out of the Marvel Cinematic Universe — which is where Gregg’s Agent Phil Coulson got his start.

Of course, we’ll have to wait until the first ratings numbers come in before Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. is officially declared a hit. But one thing is certain: we’ll be watching ABC on Tuesday nights.
