Flash Gets Stand-Alone Pilot, Plus: First Photos of Grant Gustin as Barry Allen
He’ll appear first in the December 4 episode of Arrow.
The CW is shifting its plans for the Flash pilot, which will star Glee actor Grant Gustin in what could be a new live-action series for the DC Comics speedster.
Instead of a “planted pilot” that would have aired as a regular episode of Arrow in the spring, Flash will have its own traditional, stand-alone pilot produced, according to Deadline.
Before that, Gustin will make his debut as Barry Allen in the upcoming eighth and ninth episodes of Season Two of Arrow. The first photos have just been released for episode 208, “The Scientist.” (See them all here.) That episode will air on Wedneesday, December 4.
Both episodes have been shot and reportedly well-received by The CW execs. They’ll serve as the character’s small-screen origins story, but they won’t see Allen transform into the full-fledged, costumed hero. That turn will come in the Flash pilot.
The pilot will reportedly come with a bigger budget, which will allow producers to more fully realize the Flash’s world.
As planned, the pilot will still be written by Greg Berlanti, Andrew Kreisberg, and Geoff Johns and directed by David Nutter.
