Syfy’s 12 Monkeys Casts Two Leads

Aaron Stanford and Amanda Schull will topline the new pilot.

Syfy Channel’s TV remake of the 1995 Terry Gilliam film 12 Monkeys is heading toward pilot production, and today the show’s lead actors have been cast.

Aaron Stanford (Nikita) will play Cole, a desperate time traveler who comes from a post-apocalyptic near future to the present day in an attempt to stop a deadly plague that will one day eradicate the human race. Stanford played Pyro in X2 and X-Men: The Last Stand.

Co-starring is Amanda Schull (Suits, Pretty Little Liars) as Cassandra Railly, who is described as “a brilliant doctor who is forced to choose between her idyllic life or joining Cole’s mission to uncover the dangerous conspiracy.”

Natalie Chaidez (In Plain Sight) has also joined the project as showrunner, while Jeffrey Reiner (Helix) will direct. Both will executive produce along with Atlas Entertainment’s Charles Roven and Richard Suckle.

Terry Matalas and Travis Fickett wrote the script, and will co-executive produce. Filming begins in Detroit next month.
