Early Renewals For The CW’s Arrow, Supernatural, And More
Five shows are confirmed to be returning for the 2014-2015 season.
The CW is ready to give renewals for five of its more successful shows. While most networks won’t reveal until May as to whether our favorites are coming back next season, the little netlet that could is pulling the trigger early.
Comic book hero show Arrow will return for a third season. We’re also hopeful that a Flash spin-off, which is in production on its pilot, will make the schedule as well. Arrow has risen to the status of The CW’s most-watched series this year, averaging 3.9 million viewers (Live + 7). It’s also number one in its time period among men 18 to 34 — an important demographic for the usually female-skewing network.
The Vampire Diaries has been renewed for a sixth season, and is still The CW’s top-rated show in several key demos. Spin-off The Originals will see a second season.
Supernatural has been renewed for an amazing tenth season. It has seen double-digit increases year-to-year in total viewers and all key demos, according to The CW, and recently had its most watched episodes since 2010. Ten seasons will tie the network record set by Supernatural‘s former companion, Smallville. Supernatural not only has a good shot at beating that record, but it also may get a spin-off next season. Supernatural: Tribes is in production on a pilot.
Newcomer Reign will also return for a second season. The period drama has averaged 2.35 million viewers and improved its time slot for The CW.
Still TBD on the scripted series from: The Tomorrow People, Beauty and the Beast, Hart of Dixie, and The Carrie Diaries.
