CBS Resets New Series Extant Premiere For July 9
The summer sci-fi series stars Halle Barry as an astronaut returned home
It was one of the hottest spec scripts making the network rounds last year, and now CBS is making Extant a summer event not to be missed.
They’ve cast the likes of Halle Berry (X-Men), Goran Visnjic (ER), and Camryn Manheim (Ghost Whisperer) to headline the show, which follows astronaut Molly Watts (Berry) home after a year in space. Molly tries to reconnect with her family, leading to events that ultimately will change the course of human history.
CBS announced today that it has moved the show’s premiere to Wednesday, July 9 (from the previously announced July 2). Extant will air at 9/8c.
Michael O’Neill, Hiroyuki Sanada, Pierce Gagnon, and Grace Gummer round out the cast. Extant is a co-production of CBS Television Studios and Amblin Television. Steven Spielberg, Greg Walker, Mickey Fisher, Brooklyn Weaver, Justin Falvey, and Darryl Frank serve as executive producers. Fisher wrote the script.
The main character and her family may have been renamed from “Watts” to “Woods,” judging by the background image at CBS.com. Visnjic plays Molly’s husband John and Gagnon their young son, Ethan. Manheim plays Sam Barton, Molly’s friend and confidant.
CBS’s other summer genre show, Under the Dome, will return with its second season beginning on Monday, June 30 (10/9c). The first episode is written by Stephen King, on whose novel the series is based.
Stay tuned to SciFi Stream for more on Extant! In the meantime, here’s another look at the early teaser.
