FOX Picks Up Batman Prequel Gotham To Series
The series follows Detective Jim Gordon in the years before Batman
The latest comic book TV series to hit the small screen will feature not a caped, crusading superhero, but an ordinary cop in the middle of an extraordinary city.
FOX announced today that it has given the go-ahead to Gotham, a series set in the infamous city before Bruce Wayne grew up to become Batman. The show will center on young Detective James Gordon (Ben McKenzie, Southland), the future police commissioner who will work with Batman, who encounters a rogue’s gallery of emerging villains in one of the most dangerous cities on earth.
Also starring are: Donal Logue as Harvey Bullock (Jim’s partner and mentor), Jada Pinkett Smith as mob leader Fish Mooney, David Mazouz (Touch) as a young Bruce Wayne, Robin Lord Taylor as Oswald Cobblepot (Penguin), Camren Bicondova as Selina Kyle (the future Catwoman), Erin Richards as Barbara Kean, Sean Pertwee as Alfred Pennyworth, and Zabryna Guevara as Captain Essen. Cory Michael Smith guest stars as Edward Nygma, a.k.a. The Riddler.
Warner Bros. Television will produce the series, including writer and executive producer Bruno Heller (The Mentalist).
The series has long been considered a lock for the fall schedule, and the show’s Facebook page already has more than 180,000 followers.
FOX will announce the rest of its pick-ups next week, along with a premiere window for Gotham.
