TNT Renews Falling Skies For Final Season

The 2015 season will be the last for the hit TNT alien invasion drama

It’s mixed news for fans of Falling Skies, which has just wrapped its fourth season on TNT. The good news is that the cable network has renewed the series for a fifth season.

The bad news, though, is that Season Five will be the show’s last. The advanced warning of that fact, however, will give the show’s writers plenty of opportunity to bring the story to a conclusion.

TNT also renewed freshman series The Last Ship (13 episodes — an increase from this year’s 10), along with Major Crimes (15 episodes).

TNT says that the three shows are in the Top 5 summer scripted series for basic cable, with Falling Skies averaging more than 5.5 million viewers (Live + 7 days). That’s a very impressive number for cable television — but it’s behind Major Crimes‘ 7 million, The Last Ship‘s 7.2 million, and Rizzoli & Isles‘ whopping 8.5 million.

The final season of Falling Skies will be comprised of 10 episodes, and will air next summer on TNT. Meanwhile, watch for leading man Noah Wyle (Tom Mason) to guest star when the new fantasy series The Librarians bows on TNT at the end of the year.
