Continuum Renewed For Final, Shortened Season
The show’s final bow comes in 2015
The long-awaited fate of science fiction drama Continuum has finally been made known: the series will be back in 2015.
Canada’s Showcase will bring back Continuum for a fourth and final season, which will run six episodes. Syfy Channel will also air the final season stateside.
Rachel Nichols stars in the Vancouver-based police drama, as a cop sent back from the future alongside a group of terrorists. The first season of the show ran for 10 episodes, with seasons two and three upped to 13 episodes.
It was Showcase’s highest-rated episodic telecast ever when the series debuted to 900,000 total viewers — though it settled in at about half that after just a few weeks.
Waiting on the renewal news has kept fans of the show on pins and needles for most of the year. Creator Simon Barry immediately took to Twitter to thank them. He and the show’s writing team will be doing an AMA (“Ask Me Anything”) with Continuum fans on the show’s subreddit Friday, December 12 (6 pm EST, 3 pm PST).
Barry said that he thought signs for renewal were good back in October.
“When there’s a delay and there’s no cancellation, you know people are working on finding a solution,” he told IndieWire. “That’s pretty clear. The delay is usually because somebody is working hard to find a solution that isn’t cancellation. The longer it went, the more I felt we had momentum, and I certainly started hearing things early on in terms of getting prepared for ideas and getting ready to present plans for Season 4, which gave me the indication that we had a final chance.”
“I’m excited for the ending,” Barry said. “I really like our ending, and I think it’s going to be an ending that surprises fans in a way that I’m excited to see the reaction to. We’ve been building, we’ve had our eye on this for a long time, so it’s exciting to be able to plug in all these ideas we’ve been collecting over the years and execute them.”

Too bad it’s not a whole season. Season 3 was some really interesting twists on the whole “changing the future when you change the past” thing. That last episode, with the future soldiers showing up, looked like a whole season’s worth of story. Still, 6 is much better than 0…
Thank God it will not be a ending like SGU. By the way SGU Was the best thing on the air it had it all, sad its dead.
