Extant Adds Jeffrey Dean Morgan For Season Two
The CBS sci-fi drama is changing out most of its cast
Halle Barry’s Extant is shaking up its cast for Season Two, with only Barry, Pierre Gagnon (Ethan), and Grace Gummer (Julie) set to return. This week CBS announced that actor Jeffrey Dean Morgan will join the show as a series regular.
Morgan will play JD Richter, described as “a roguish womanizer and a cop of the future who is a mercenary/bounty hunter. He is free-wheeling, hard-drinking and fearless, bordering on reckless, mostly because he’s got nothing to lose. He is the everyman who thought he had seen everything until Molly Woods (Halle Berry) enters his life.”
Morgan’s list of credits include Supernatural, Magic City, and Grey’s Anatomy, as well as the feature films Watchmen and P.S. I Love You.
Extant is saying goodbye to much of its supporting cast this year, including Goran Visnjic (Molly’s husband, John), Camryn Mannheim (Sam), Hiroyuki Sanada (Yasumoto), and Michael O’Neill (Alan). Visnjic and Mannheim will make appearances at the start of the season.
Following the events of Season One, this season’s storyline will focus on “Molly’s efforts to track down her alien son who is threatening the human race,” according to Deadline.
