Syfy Won’t Turn Ascension Into A Series

The 6-hour miniseries aired in December

Ascension won’t be moving ahead as a regular series, Syfy Channel has revealed.

The 6-hour miniseries aired in December as a limited run, with an eye toward a possible regular series — thus the game-changing cliffhanger finale that did anything but wrap up the storyline. (The strategy worked for Battlestar Galactica, which started as a mini in 2005.)

“We were very happy with Ascension as an event series,” Syfy told Deadline, “but with so much high profile development in the works, we have decided not to pursue a full series.”

Ascension was created by Phil Levens (Smallville), and premiered to 1.8 million viewers.

  • Too bad. The premise was very original and had a lot of possibilities. It would’ve made a great one season series leading up to a big reveal for everyone at the end.
