ABC Cancels Resurrection After Two Seasons

The supernatural family drama lasted 21 episodes

Resurrection won’t be back for a third season.

ABC has cancelled the supernatural family drama, which starred Omar Epps (House) and told the story of small-town Arcadia, Missouri, where the long-dead loved ones of the town’s citizens suddenly return alive and without explanation.

Based on the French series Les Revenants (The Returned), the ABC adaptation ran for a total of 21 episodes. It aired on Sunday nights for two short seasons, but never garnered much attention from viewers or critics.

After opening strong to 13.9 million viewers the first season faded to a finale of 8.16 million. Season Two opened in the fall to 8.38 million, and proceeded to plunge to 3.73 million for the February ender.

A new adaptation of the same story is now airing on A&E, carrying the title The Returned. Former LOST executive producer Carlton Cuse is producing the series, which premiered in March. The first season finale airs tonight.
