DC Comics’ Legends of Tomorrow Headed To Series

The CW is expanding the Arrow-Flash universe next season

It’s looking to be another big year for comic books on television, and The CW is making sure it’s standing at the top of that list.

The network will expand its DC Comics television universe with Legends of Tomorrow, a spin-off of Arrow and The Flash. (Both of those shows have also been renewed, for their fourth and second seasons, respectively.)

Legends is imagined as a sort of “Magnificent Seven” team-up of heroes and villains, with a cast of characters including Ray Palmer / The Atom (Brandon Routh), Dr. Martin Stein (Victor Garber), Sara Lance / Canary (Caity Lotz), Rip Hunter (Arthur Darvill, Doctor Who), Hawkgirl (Ciarra Renee), Jay Jackson (Franz Drameh, Edge of Tomorrow), Mick Rory / Heat Wave (Dominic Purcell), and Leonard Snart / Captain Cold (Wentworth Miller).

The show’s official description reads as follows:

When heroes alone are not enough … the world needs legends. Having seen the future, one he will desperately try to prevent from happening, time-traveling rogue Rip Hunter is tasked with assembling a disparate group of both heroes and villains to confront an unstoppable threat — one in which not only is the planet at stake, but all of time itself. Can this ragtag team defeat an immortal threat unlike anything they have ever known?

Greg Berlanti, Marc Guggenheim, Andrew Kreisberg, and Sarah Schechter will executive produce for Bonanza Productions, Berlanti Productions and Warner Bros. TV.

Darvill’s Rip Hunter and Renee’s Hawkgirl will reportedly make their debut appearance in next week’s season finale of The Flash (Tuesday, May 19 at 8/7c).

The CW will announce its full 2015-2016 scheduling plans on May 14.

In addition to The CW’s three superhero shows, DC Entertainment also has Supergirl flying high on CBS next season, and the devilish Lucifer headed to series at FOX — where Gotham will be back for a second season. And cable outlet TNT is still working on a Titans pilot.

Keep it with SciFi Stream for more on Legends of Tomorrow in the weeks ahead! The season finale of Arrow airs this Wednesday (8/7c).
