Humans Renewed For Season Two
The android series is currently airing on AMC
This summer one of our favorite new genre series is Humans, a co-production from AMC and Britain’s Channel 4. It’s smart, sexy, and populated with thoughtfully-drawn characters. If you haven’t checked it out yet, you need to.
This week the networks renewed Humans for a second season, to begin production in 2016.
Humans is set in an alternate, present-day Earth where life-like androids called “Synths” have been integrated into everyday society, serving as laborers, housekeepers, sex workers, and more. But secretly among them is a small group of Synths who have achieved artificial intelligence — a truly human consciousness — who are fighting to survive and reunite with the ones they love.
Gemma Chan (Sherlock, Secret Diary of a Call Girl) stars as Anita, a Synth aquired by the Hawkins family in order to make their tense family life easier. But it soon becomes evident to the family that she is no ordinary model, but one with a remarkable past buried deep in her artificial psyche.
The series is currently airing its 8-episode first season Sunday nights on AMC in the United States, where it has drawn an average of 2 million viewers (Live + 3). In the U.K., Humans premiered as Channel 4’s highest-rated original drama in 20 years and is pulling an 18 percent share of the viewing audience.
