Sci-Fi This Week: The X-Files 2-Night Premiere Continues
Find out what’s airing in science fiction and fantasy
Fox Mulder and Dana Scully return as a new era dawns for FOX’s venerable X-Files dynasty. The 6-episode limited event series debuted Sunday night, and tonight the show continues as it settles into its Monday night time slot.
Series creator Chris Carter wants The X-Files to continue with more limited series in the future. This batch of episodes begins and ends with mythology-heavy episodes, while the middle episodes will give us the sort of monster-of-the-week fun that made the show a creepy hit in the 1990s.
Also this week: Supergirl takes on a White Martian, while the Flash is confronted by last season’s big baddie he believed to have been erased from the future timeline: Eobard Thawne, a.k.a. the Reverse-Flash! On The Expanse Miller’s investigation will finally cross his path with Holden and the Rocinate crew, and Friday night Grimm is back with a resurrected “Juliette.”
Syfy is also launching a new fantasy series tonight: The Magicians (9/8c) follows Quentin Coldwater as he discovers that magic is real, and enrolls in the graduate program at Brakebills College for Magical Pedagogy. Syfy previewed the pilot several weeks ago and the show is definitely worth a look for those interested in the magical side of the fantasy sub-genre.
