Doctor Who Is Getting A New Companion For 2025

Varada Sethu is joining the TARDIS alongside Ncuti Gatwa and Millie Gibson for the Fifteenth Doctor’s second season of adventures.

The more the merrier for the Fifteenth Doctor and his growing TARDIS team.

As Doctor Who fans get ready for next month’s premiere of Ncuti Gatwa’s first regular season in the titular role, the BBC today announced the addition of a new regular cast member for the Fifteenth Doctor’s second season. Actress Varada Sethu has joined the show as a future companion. (Her character’s name is as yet unrevealed.)

Sethu will join current companion Millie Gibson, who is now confirmed to be returning in Season 15 of the modern series as Ruby Sunday. Gibson was introduced in the 2023 Christmas special “The Church on Ruby Road.”

“I feel like the luckiest person in the world,” Sethu said (via press release). “It is such an honour to be a part of the Whoniverse, and I’m so grateful to the whole Doctor Who family — because that is what they are — for welcoming me with open arms and making me feel so at home. I couldn’t ask for a better team than Ncuti and Millie to be on this adventure with, this is SO much fun!”

Varada Sethu’s previous credits include Hanna, Jurassic World Dominion, and Strike Back. She also played Cinta Kaz on Star Wars: Andor.

“I first worked with Varada on a BBC production of ‘A Midsummer Night’s Dream,’ and it’s a joy to welcome her on board the TARDIS,” Doctor Who executive producer Russell T Davies said. “Right now in the studio, shooting for 2025, we’ve got Ncuti, Millie and Varada fighting side by side — we need all three, because the stakes are higher than ever!”

Season 15 is currently in production and will premiere on Disney+, BBC iPlayer, and around the globe in 2025.

But first! Doctor Who fans have Gatwa and Gibson’s first season to enjoy. The 8-episode season premieres Friday, May 10 on Disney+ in the United States, and simultaneously at 12 a.m. (May 11) on BBC iPlayer in the U.K. — and on your local outlet around the world. Episodes will then air on BBC linear television on Saturday night.
