Lord of the Rings

The Rings of Power Premieres This August (Watch The New Trailer!)

Sauron continues his devastating rise to power in the new season, arriving globally this summer on Prime Video.

The Lord of the Rings television prequel The Rings of Power finally has an official date for its return. Season 2 will arrive on Amazon’s Prime Video streaming service globally on Thursday, August 29.

Prime Video announced the news at today’s advertisers upfront presentation in New York. It also released the first trailer for the second season, as well as the teaser poster below (featuring Charlie Vickers as the story’s Big Bad).

The return of the Rings show comes nearly two years after the first season premiered in September 2022. Here’s how Prime Video describes the story of Season 2:

In Season Two of The Rings of Power, Sauron has returned. Cast out by Galadriel, without army or ally, the rising Dark Lord must now rely on his own cunning to rebuild his strength and oversee the creation of the Rings of Power, which will allow him to bind all the peoples of Middle-earth to his sinister will. Building on Season One’s epic scope and ambition, the new season plunges even its most beloved and vulnerable characters into a rising tide of darkness, challenging each to find their place in a world that is increasingly on the brink of calamity. Elves and dwarves, orcs and men, wizards and Harfoots … as friendships are strained and kingdoms begin to fracture, the forces of good will struggle ever more valiantly to hold on to what matters to them most of all … each other.

Charlie Vickers returns as Sauron, whose identity was shrouded in mystery up until the final moments of the first season. He joins castmates Morfydd Clark (Galadriel), Robert Aramayo (Elrond), Owain Arthur (Durin IV), Markella Kavenagh (Nori), Ismael Cruz Córdova (Arondir), Nazanin Boniadi (Bronwyn), Sophia Nomvete (Disa), Lloyd Owen (Elendil), Maxim Baldry (Isildur), Cynthia Addai-Robinson (Míriel), Tyroe Muhafidin (Theo), and Charles Edwards (Celebrimbor).

While the first season is not wanting for critics, tens of millions of viewers worldwide have at least checked out the show. Prime Video boasts that Season 1 was viewed by more than 100 million people worldwide and has been a major driver of subscriptions.

Season 2 of The Rings of Power will stream to more than 240 countries and territories in multiple languages.
