Time agent Rip Hunter travels to the present day to recruit the Atom, White Canary, Firestorm, Captain Cold, Heat Wave, Hawkman and Hawkgirl to try and stop Vandal Savage from conquering the Earth in the year 2166.
The team attempts to intercept Vandal Savage's sale of a nuclear warhead, only to have a piece of Ray's advanced hardware fall into enemy hands. While Ray, Mick, and Snart try to steal the knife first used to kill Carter and Kendra in ancient Egypt, Dr. Stein leads a team to acquire a key piece of technology from his arrogant, younger self.
Rip and Sara decide to target Vandal Savage's financial assets, only to discover that the immortal villain has plans for one of their friends. Elsewhere, Snart and Rory talk Jax into helping them steal a jewel in Central City, and Ray must conquer his self-doubt to perform microscopic surgery and save Kendra's life.
After infiltrating the Pentagon in 1986 the Waverider travels to Moscow, where Vandal Savage has sought asylum during the Cold War. While Ray and Snart attempt to romance a Russian scientist in order to learn their enemy's next move, the Time Masters track down Rip and make him an offer.
Inside a Russian gulag the enemy tries to force Dr. Stein to unlock the secrets of Firestorm, subjecting his comrades to torture. With the Cold War and the future of the world on a knife's edge, Rip tasks Sara with a difficult mission.
After the Waverider crash-lands in Star City in the year 2046, the team finds that the son of Slade Wilson has taken up the mantle of Deathstroke and brought about an apocalypse -- where a new Green Arrow fights alone and a broken Oliver Queen sits in the shadows.
Rip answers a distress call from another timeship that is stranded in deep space, only to find himself captured by time pirates. While Rip recalls his troubled history with the Time Masters, Ray and Kendra are left in command of the Wave Rider -- where Sara and Snart soon find themselves trapped in the Engine Room.
After the team tracks Savage to a small town in the 1950s, Ray and Kendra go undercover as a married couple new to the neighborhood -- but find life difficult for an interracial couple. Professor Stein and Sara pose as a doctor and nurse inside a psychiatric hospital, where they learn that Savage is using an extra-terrestrial discovery to experiment on patients.
After Chronos sends the Waverider hurtling out of control through time, Kendra, Ray, and Sara find themselves stranded in 1958. After Ray and Kendra settle down into a new life together, they must suddenly reunite with their friends and retrieve Sara -- who has returned to her life with Ra's al Ghul and the League of Assassins.
Rip takes the team to the future with the intention of taking one of Savage's allies out of the timeline -- who at this point in history is a 14-year-old boy destined to become an evil dictator. The team takes turns confronting their prisoner, and Kendra remembers a former life with Carter.
The team travels to the Old West in the 1870s to hide from the Hunters, only to find themselves compelled to help the people of the town of Salvation -- with help from Jonah Hex, a man who has history with Rip. While Ray tries to drive off a band of criminals Martin decides to save a child's life, and Kendra finds herself drawn to someone she meets in town.
The team's own lives are on the line when a time-traveling assassin called the Pilgrim targets their younger selves, forcing them to skip through time and remove themselves from history.
The team travels to the year 2166 in a last-ditch attempt to stop Savage only days before he kills Rip's family, where they find Savage's own daughter commanding his forces. While Kendra works to devise a way to kill Savage, Ray may be the only one who can save the Waverider from a giant robot weapon.
Rip pushes the ship too hard in an attempt to get Vandal Savage to the Vanishing Point to stand trial, leaving the crew adrift in the time stream with their manipulative prisoner. While Kendra tries to reach a brainwashed Carter, Jefferson is exposed to deadly radiation.
Rip and the crew find themselves imprisoned by the Time Masters, who have their own agenda for Vandal Savage and the future -- while Sara and Snart hide out on the Waverider and attempt a rescue. Elsewhere Kendra is reunited with Carter, and Jefferson turns to a younger Martin Stein for help getting back to his friends.
With their mission apparently a failure Rip returns the team to 2016 -- where they quickly rally back together and discover a message left by Kendra. Having uncovered Savage's endgame to exploit alien technology, the Legends must confront him simultaneously in three different time periods.
