After surviving a plane crash in the Amazon, members of the Powell family discover that they have supernatural abilities -- father Jim immense strength, mother Stephanie super speed, 16-year-old Daphne telepathy ... but no evident abilities for 14-year-old son J.J.
After promising not to use their powers, Stephanie goes to great distances (literally) to find out how the family got this way, and Jim plays superhero to try and stop a group of bank robbers. J.J.'s powers begin to emerge, but he chooses to keep it hidden from his parents.
Jim tries to use his powers to stop a group of wedding-crashing thieves and get back his wife's stolen wedding ring. When Katie tries to protect Stephanie's secret by faking a blood test, Stephanie must use her speed to break into her own company and save their jobs. Daphne considers telling a friend about her new ability.
Jim enters a park in the dead of night to stop a mugger, only to be spotted by witnesses when a violent vigilante shoots the thief dead. J.J. tries out for the football team when he discovers that his powers have more practical application, and Daphne uses her telepathy to crash an upperclassmen's party.
After the Powells experience an earthquake evidence points to someone with an ability causing quakes to rob pharmacies. Meanwhile, Daphne becomes convinced that a teacher is having an affair with one of their classmates, and Stephanie becomes suspicious that J.J. has powers.
The Powells try to keep their powers a secret when Stephanie's parents show up for a surprise visit. But after a home invasion in the neighborhood, Daphne uses her telepathy to try and help identify the criminals.
Jim tries to intervene after George fails to convict a dangerous mobster, and risks compromising his identity. Meanwhile, Stephanie's boss warns her not to pursue Dr. Volson's controversial research, and J.J. helps Daphne and Katie's romantic lives.
While attempting to stop a serial carjacker Jim experiences a temporary loss of his powers. After J.J. is caught changing a friend's grade in the school computer, he uses his power to try and save his teacher's life. And Katie continues to explore her new relationship, unaware of Will's true motives.

George is declared a hero after he is discovered at the scene of one of Jim's saves, while Daphne calls Will's real identity into question. J.J. goes in search of friends who can keep up with his growing intellect, and finds a weakness in his ability. Dr. Childs confronts King, only to find himself in his former boss's crosshairs.
After Jim saves a man from being hit by a bus the Powells strike up a friendship with his family, unaware of the secrets they keep. Meanwhile Jim tries to stop an art thief, and Katie's relationship with Joshua becomes more serious.
After Jim's freeloading brother shows up and finds out about the family's powers, he decides to use them for his own gain. Katie receives an unexpected promotion that drives a wedge between her and Stephanie, and Daphne tries to help a student wrong accused of drug possession.
The police precinct is taken over by a group of escaped criminals, including one who Jim fears might be able to identify him to an Internal Affairs investigator. Stephanie is locked in her lab with Katie and a feverish Joshua, and Daphne and J.J. find themselves in detention after school.

George is seduced by a beautiful woman with the power to bend men to her will -- who then turns her gaze to Jim to get what she wants. Dr. King tests Stephanie by having her administer the trilsettum serum to a convict, and Daphne's boyfriend starts asking questions about her family.
Following a series of murders by a super exhibiting animal-like qualities, the Powells learn that someone is hunting anyone with trilsettum in their blood. Meanwhile, Daphne uses her powers to skip school with Chris, and Katie makes a shocking discovery about herself.
An enhancement to Stephanie's ability sends her into the future, where she witnesses her family on the run from the authorities. Meanwhile, Jim and George investigate the shooting of a detective at the precinct, and Dr. King's boss revives one of the company's former assets.
The CEO of Global Tech takes over the experimental project on supers, sending a super to kidnap J.J. in order to figure out how to make the effects of the trilsettum injection permanent. Dr. King reveals a personal secret after falling ill, and Katie is stunned when Joshua returns.
