Mitchell risks himself to enter Purgatory and bring back Annie, where he is forced to confront his recent transgression. George encounters another werewolf in the woods, and faces the possibility of transforming in a busy city jail after he is arrested.
George and Nina befriend a young vampire whose father has been hospitalized after a lifetime of feeding his son his own blood. Mitchell is summoned by the society of ancient vampires when they learn that he has risked ruining their secrecy.
Annie tries to help an obnoxious (and recently deceased) zombie girl who follows her home. George discovers that Nina has been keeping a secret of her own from him, and Mitchell meets his biggest fan -- a vampire who tries to manipulate his way into Mitchell's life.
George and Nina go in search of other werewolves in hopes of finding out if their child can survive, but find an unwilling McNair. Meanwhile, Mitchell and Annie explore their new relationship.
George is stunned to find the megalomaniac vampire Herrick in the psych ward at the hospital, alive again but apparently out of his mind, and he and his friends must decide whether to protect him or kill him all over again.
George learns that his father has died, only to encounter his ghost at the funeral. Mitchell plans to use Herrick to determine how to beat death, but the Box Tunnel investigation closes in on him in the form of an aggressive young investigator.
After Tom and McNair turn up at the house on the eve of the full moon, Mitchell worries that the prophecy may soon be fulfilled. Nancy Reid attempts to get proof of Mitchell's involvement in the Box Car Twenty murders, while Annie and the others point her to Daisy instead.
Herrick may be responsible for Mitchell's prophesied fate when he demands he prove his loyalty by killing his friend. Lia brings Annie to purgatory to make her watch Mitchell's fate unfold, and a powerful element in the vampire community surfaces.
