Jean-Luc travels to Starfleet Headquarters to try and win support for a mission to discover the truth about Dahj, but must look elsewhere after he is rebuffed. On the Romulan reclamation station, Soji gets to know her new Romulan friend better -- unaware of the agenda he harbors.
Jean-Luc tries to convince a former friend to help him find a ship and a pilot, leading him to washed-up former Starfleet officer Cristóbal Rios. Meanwhile the Romulans try to stop his mission before it begins, while Soji's work on the Borg cube draws the attention of the research project's executive director.
Picard makes a detour to the planet Vashti, where he and Raffi settled a colony of refugees many years ago, and where he hopes to recruit a new ally. But the crew must tangle with a local warlord in order to escape the system in one piece.
When the La Sirena arrives at Freecloud, the crew's search for Maddox requires them to go undercover -- using Seven of Nine as bait for the local crime lord.
Picard and crew arrive at the Borg cube, where the Admiral must face his own inner demons while searching for Dahj's sister. Meanwhile, Narek presses Soji through a Romulan ritual in hopes of unlocking her hidden memories.
A need to find refuge brings Jean-Luc and Soji to the home of two old friends, where Soji struggles over whom she can trust. Rios and the others try to shake a Romulan tail, while on the Artifact Hugh and Elnor deal with the repercussions of their actions.
Picard and his crew must find a new path forward when Soji comes on board the La Sirena, sending Rios into an emotional spiral. On board the Artifact Narissa plans the Romulan assault on the synth homeworld, while Seven of Nine arrives to try and help stop her.
The crew arrives on the hidden world of Capelius, where Soji is reunited with her synth family -- and brings them a dire warning about an imminent attack by a Romulan fleet.
As the Romulans reach Capelius, Picard and the La Sirena crew make an unlikely alliance to prevent the synths from activating a beacon that could doom all organic life -- bringing about the very disaster foretold in ancient prophecy.
