Barrowman Returns To Arrow As A Series Regular

Malcolm Merlyn will play a bigger role in Season Three

Fan favorite John Barrowman is returning to Arrow for the show’s third season — this time with a promotion.

The Torchwood actor has recurred as a guest star throughout the series’ first two seasons, surviving an evident Season One death and (SPOILERS) being revealed this past season to be Thea’s real father. In Season Three he will be a regular cast member.

Barrowman’s character of Malcolm Merlyn was the father of Oliver’s best friend, Tommy, and also one of the show’s chief villains — the “Dark Archer,” trained by the League of Assassins.

“[I am] excited to explore what is yet to come between Malcolm and Thea,” Barrowman said to reporters at The CW’s upfront presentation in New York, “and also what’s yet to come between Oliver and Malcolm, and all of the rest of them.”

Arrow remains one of The CW’s most-watched shows, with 2.37 million tuning in for the second season finale on May 14. The third season is expected to begin in October.
