Cancelled: FOX Walks Back On Period Fantasy Hieroglyph

The action-adventure show set in ancient Egypt just got the axe

FOX isn’t so interested in a fantasy drama set in ancient Egypt after all.

In what could be the quickest cancellation in recent memory — and certainly for a genre show — the network has just cancelled its upcoming series Hieroglyph, from Pacific Rim writer Travis Beacham.

The network picked up the show to series last October based on the script, avoid a potential bidding war for Beacham by foregoing the traditional pilot process. That seems to have bit the network in the backside, with Deadline reporting that subsequent scripts were not up to snuff.

FOX had already begun preliminary promotion for the new show, including the trailer below. Hieroglyph was to premiere at mid-season.

Darren is a fan of all things science fiction, and founded the popular Stargate website GateWorld in 1999, followed by SciFi Stream in 2007. He lives in the Seattle area.

  • What? No! It’s cancelled even BEFORE it’s aired? This is very disappointing. What’s wrong?! ><

I really hope someone else picks this show up. I want to see that, dammit!

  • It’s a damn shame that this series based on life in Ancient Egypt was canceled. It seems like the only shows that feature Ancient Egyptians are the ones that a tied to the Jewish biblical nonsense, thus showing Ancient Egyptians in a negative and inaccurate light.

Sad to know that there was a potential for a show like this and it went south before anyone got to see it.
